Middy blouse

A middy blouse ("middy" derives from "midshipman") is a blouse with a wide collar. Middy blouses were worn by both boys and girls. For boys, they were usually combined with bell-bottomed trousers or shorts and were then a part of a sailor suit. For girls, they were combined with skirts, typically pleated skirts, which was effectively a sailor dress in two parts. Middy shirt and sailor shirt are synonyms for the garment.
