A. N. Roquelaure

A. N. Roquelaure is a pseudonym of the American author Anne Rice (born 1941), used for her novel The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, an erotic novel set in a mythical medieval world of Masters, Mistresses and slaves.

The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty (1983) is the first book in a trilogy followed by the sequels Beauty's Punishment (1984) and Beauty's Release (1985). The three novels played a measurable role in expanding awareness of BDSM activities and behavior for an entire generation.

Youthful slaves, sent to the "palace" as tribute by their royal parents, are trained in proper submission through nudity, spankings, bestiality, and public display in the Great Hall or Town Square. The names of characters have been adopted by users on a wide range of web sites associated with BDSM roleplay.
