Brunei, officially the State of Brunei, Abode of Peace (Malay: Negara Brunei Darussalam), is a Southeast Asian country located on the northern part of the island of Borneo, surrounded by Malaysia and Indonesia. It is governed by an absolute monarchy, with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah as the head of state and head of government. It has a relatively small population in Southeast Asia, with only about more than 400,000 as of 2011. Classified as a developed country, Brunei is ranked by Forbes as the fifth richest country out of 182 countries because of its petroleum and natural gas reserves. The country's official language is Malay.
Spanking in BruneiEdit
Like its neighbors Singapore and Malaysia, Brunei also regularly imposes judicial corporal punishment (in the form of caning) on male criminals only for a range of offenses similar to those punishable by caning in Malaysia. For men, caning is always ordered in addition to a jail term and never as a single punishment by itself. As for boys, they may not necessarily receive a prison term, as they may be caned in prison and then released after that. The punishment is carried out in a similar fashion to that of Singapore - the offender is tied to a caning trestle in a bent-over position and is beaten on the bare buttocks with a long and thick rattan cane.
