Nylon is a thermoplastic, silky material, a family of synthetic polymers known generically as aliphatic polyamides. Nylon fiber was the first fiber that was completely synthetically produced. Nylon is perhaps best known as a material for women's stockings and pantyhoses. Nylon was intended to be a synthetic replacement for silk and substituted for it in many different products (e.g. parachutes) after silk became scarce during World War II.
Nylon is used in toothbrush bristles, clothes fabrics, bridal veils, package paper, carpets, musical strings, pipes, hoses and rope. Solid nylon is used in hair combs and for mechanical parts such as machine screws and gears.
Nylon in clothingEdit
Nylon lingerie such as stockings and pantyhoses are an often eroticized, and sometimes fetishized garment (see also underwear fetishism). Nylon fetishism is an alternative (or more specific) name for Spandex fetishism.
Also non-underwear items such as gym shorts, which are often made of nylon, can be found sexy due to their smooth, silky look and touch.
While nylon garments are popular in forced feminization and among male crossdressers (including transvestites and homosexuals) to achieve a "female" look of the legs, some men with a pantyhose fetish may wear them for reasons having mainly to do with the special properties of the thin, sensual, semitransparent, skin-tight material and how it makes the legs look and feel. Such men may be deeply anxious and worried about being associated with homosexuality or transvestism, and as such most will endeavour to keep the fetish totally private, commonly hiding it from their wives/partners (though some do have the ultimate trust and understanding of their partners) due to such enormous fears that are invariably completely out of context with such relatively mild desires. The wearing of nylon underwear by men can then become a strong, and much reinforced fetish aided and abetted by this 'pressure' which can consume some as it serves to expand the already highly charged fetish in itself.
Nylon in sex toys and spankingEdit
An implement called "The Rod", which was a flexible nylon rod with a cushioned vinyl grip and a safety tip, sold by Slide's Manufacturing Company of Eufaula, Oklahoma, as "the ideal tool for child training", was taken from the market in 2005, according to the organization Stop the Rod.
