Spambot countermeasuresEdit

As you have noticed, spambots have become an increasing nuisance.

  • May 2010: 4
  • June 2010: 7
  • July 2010: 10
  • August 2010: 10
  • September 2010: 10
  • October 2010: 17
  • November 2010: 23
  • December 2010: 29

I think we should take action. Could you help me with this? I collected some links to anti-spam information and MediaWiki extensions on Spanking Art:MediaWiki#Spambot solutions and I would appreciate if you could help me go through these and see which is our best way to go. --Spankart (talk) 17:31, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

The 2nd and 3rd options look the most promicing, but both option need uptaded version of the wiki software ware (version 1.16 and 1.12 respectively) which means gettin Ai or Stoner to dedicat some time in doing so. --  Roguebfl   talk    contribs    email   15:11, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, I contacted them by email. --Spankart (talk) 21:42, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

There are still spambots coming through by registering throwaway accounts. I believe this hole could be closed by improving our account registration captcha. At the moment it's a simple maths calculation that bots can easily solve. I read Extension:ConfirmEdit and it seems we would need something like the FancyCaptcha addon, or Extension:ReCAPTCHA. What do you think? --Spankart (talk) 22:38, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

I tend to have issue with Captcha systems, OCR tech has gotten to the point that for a captcha to beet it, it becomes a significat problem for me to use. --  Roguebfl   talk    contribs    email   23:42, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
Ok, let's wait for a while and see how the spam develops. --Spankart (talk) 20:12, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Template issuesEdit

Today I messed with the following templates Template:Femdomwiki, Template:Biblio, Template:Wipipedia-text and Template:Wikipedia-text trying to fix an issue we had with space characters that were converted to plus (+) signs instead of underscores (_), resulting in wrong URLs. I replaced urlencode with anchorencode, which fixed this issue, but created a new issue: now the encoding for French characters was broken. So I tried to replace it in Template:Biblio with localurl -- now this gives perfect encoding and fixed that issue, but has created yet a new one: now the parser adds "wiki/" in front of the string, which doesn't work with Biblio Curiosa. I'm taking a break at this point, maybe you can figure out a solution? --Spankart (talk) 20:12, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Here are example pages to test the templates:

They all seem to be working. --  Roguebfl   talk    contribs    email   00:03, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Removing two locksEdit

I just saw that the two pages Jade growing up again and Jade growing up again (characters) were semi-protected by RobM in May 2010. I think we can remove these locks, what do you think? --Spankart (talk) 22:20, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Sure we can try, but the semi lock just mean you have to log in to edit, was there an issue of people stoping by just to candlizes those pages? --  Roguebfl   talk    contribs    email   01:28, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
I had a look at the history but didn't find anything that looked like vandalism. --Spankart (talk) 18:39, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Hey, RoguebflEdit

Just thought I should let you know: our other wiki is experiencing technical problems, so you may not be able to do any editing at the moment. According to the admin, they're changing servers, and the transfer may take several days. I'll let you know when normal service resumes; until then, log in every once in a while to see what's going on. Cheers, Blackshade9 05:56, 10 July 2011 (BST)

Melvin removalEdit

I noticed you removed it and I'm guessing deleted the picture since it's not showing up. I'm not entirely sure why because there wasn't an editing summary. Since 'playful little audrey' addition was kept, I'm left either to assume it was because Melvin was getting spanked or else perhaps I was wrong and 'Melvin and Audrey' series isn't public domain like Audrey and PLA is? Ty 00:44, 17 July 2011 (BST)

There was not copyright date on it, and given that without additional information it does not become public domain if it was not published before 1923 (as it was a published work), it was not a safe assumption for me that it was public domain, and I could not find any information in what was provided that it was. If i was wrong, give me the info an I'll fix it. --  Roguebfl   talk    contribs    email   12:52, 17 July 2011 (BST)
Copyright Term and the Public Domain in the United States --  Roguebfl   talk    contribs    email   12:54, 17 July 2011 (BST)
Hm okay well File:AudreyMelvinOnceUponATime5Top.jpg was deleted on 22nd so guess I should figure this out. I'm not sure which year specifically, ComicVine says between 62-74, so nothing automatic I guess. For some reason I assumed the date was later since all Lovecraft's novels appear to be public yet, even some from the 30s, so I dunno. Maybe he's an exception. Anyway is there some way around that like 'fair use' or whatever where we show a low-rez clip that only shows the spanking purely for the purposes of displaying the specific content while clipping out all other details of it? Like I've seen that for some comics images on wikis before. I have no clue on the proper protocol unfortunately. Ty 09:31, 21 August 2011 (BST)

Congrats, spambot issueEdit

Hi Rogue, congratulations on the 3000th article!

I would like to pick up our discussion which technical steps we should best take to fight the increasing spambot volume, which is becoming more and more of a nuisance. --Spankart (talk) 08:59, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, and sure, also remember I'm often on skype. --  Roguebfl   talk    contribs    email   13:02, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
