A neighbor (also spelled neighbour) is a person whose home is adjacent or close to another.

Spanking stories frequently cast female neighbors in the role of spankers, usually so that they can take the role of maternal disciplinarian without literally being the spankee's mother, thus avoiding any potentially uncomfortable incestuous undertones in the story.

Many stories depicting spanking of children center around a scenario where the leading character has never been spanked until committing some misbehavior at the neighbor's house. Frequently, the neighbor is portrayed as the mother of a friend of the leading character, who first spanks her son in front of the leading character and then takes the protagonist over her knee immediately afterwards.
