As to your edit, Pineapple: I think we should not conceal that judicial or military floggings often resulted in death, historically, and that severe flogging sentences often were death sentences in practice. --Spankart (talk) 21:44, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

I am not aware of any evidence that judicial floggings "often" resulted in death. I believe I have read that some military floggings *occasionally* did so. We should not overstate the case and thus give ammunition to ignorant people to whom it comes naturally to say "capital and corporal punishment" in the same phrase as though they differ only in degree, when in fact they are ethically utterly different. -- Pineapple (talk) 22:28, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
